In a game that they led for all 80 minutes of regular time, Stockport's First team league season ended when an injury time try from the hosts saw them out of the promotion playoffs as Anselmians scored with literally the last play of the game.
It all started so differently as Stockport went into a solid first half lead courtesy of two Zach Stephens penalties and a Ben Stephens try to see Port into an early 13- 0 lead before Annies reduced the deficit with a try of their own.
Ben Stephens then added a second try before Anselmians scored two more tries to see the game on a knife edge with Port leading 24-25 as the game moved into injury time only for a sharp break from the Anselmians fullback saw him cut the defensive line and break Stockport hearts as the home side ran out 31-25 winners.
Anselmians will now host Harrogate this Saturday where the winner of that game will face Rossendale who have finished third bottom of Nat 2 North in a straight shoot out for promotion to that Division.
It's not all over for Port as we still have the Cheshire Cup final versus Caldy still to come.
The date is still to be confirmed but in the meantime we have some exciting news coming of the biggest signing the club have made since Dean Schofield arrived. Watch this space.
