Sue, who was born on 18 August 1940, passed away peacefully at home on 10 July, aged 85.
Sue was the devoted wife of John Belsten for 65 years. John was an ex-player and President of the Club in 1975/76. She was also the proud mother of former player Dave Belsten and grandmother to current junior player Zachary Belsten – three generations of the Belsten family who have all been part of Stockport Rugby Club.
John and Sue were a hugely valued and active part of the Club for many years. In fact, they first met at the Club in 1958, where their lifelong relationship began before they went on to marry.
Many members will remember Sue, alongside the wives, girlfriends and daughters of players, preparing the famous after-match teas every Saturday in the days when everything was run by volunteers. Sue dedicated more than 20 years to this role, quietly giving her time week after week to support the Club.
Alongside John, she was also heavily involved in the Glengarth Sevens during the 1960s and 1970s, serving on the organising committee for over 20 years and helping make the tournament such a success.
Sue will be deeply missed by John, her son Dave, daughter Lisa, her grandchildren, wider family and friends.
On behalf of everyone at Stockport Rugby Club, we send our sincere condolences to the Belsten family and our heartfelt thanks to Sue for everything she did for the Club over so many years. Her commitment, generosity and friendship will always be remembered.
Rest in peace, Sue.
It was an honour and a privilege to have known you for almost 50 years.
