For the second consecutive week Tom Stock doubled his try count for the season. Two well-taken tries were the icing on the cake on another good individual performance from Tom, who once again showed a hunger to take the ball on, but they were also the product of the hard shift in the scrums and loose play put in by all of his colleagues up front
From the opening whistle it was clear that AK were determined to make life difficult for us and they duly spent the first quarter of the game in our half. However, we were steadfast in our defence and gradually our forwards took control – culminating in the second try in 2 games from Christian Chapman followed by the first of Tom`s tries – leading to a half time score of 10-0 in our favour.
Our back – row was in particularly good form, with Christian, Oaksey and Barney (on his return from paternity leave) all making their presence felt in both attack and defence.
In the backs our sixth form partnership of De Weever and Kaciubskyj in the centre once again showed what good prospects they both are against a dangerous AK pairing.
At the end of the first half Rick Barrow suffered what looked to be a nasty ankle injury causing us to juggle the back line. That made the third score of the game even more important than usual and fortunately it went our way when that man Stock again went over from close range.
At 17-0, we felt the game was probably safe but an interception try followed by a further spell of pressure in our 22 made sure that we could not relax. In the end an individual effort from 30 metres out from Jake, who once again got the better of a good opponent at scrum half, sealed the win for us.
On Wednesday night we play at Sedgley Park followed by a home fixture on Saturday against Birkenhead Park. Let’s have a good run through at training on Tuesday (and give support to the 1st team ahead of their trip to Birkenhead) and when we`ll also confirm the squad for Wednesday`s game.
