Fun in the sun at Burnage

Fun in the sun at Burnage

No one coaching Burnage this week??

Fresh off the back of a hard fought win, Stockport made the short journey to Burnage on a glorious day for rugby to see if they could seek revenge after the home team won 11-0 in the reverse fixture. With Stockport fielding possibly the strongest side this season and with the Burnage coach deciding not to coach them this time the game was set for an exciting afternoon’s entertainment.

Despite early pressure from Stockport with the away team playing all of the rugby, a combination of mistakes and trying to force the play saw Burnage open the scoring courtesy of a penalty for their fly half. Stockport got their act together and some strong running from wing Oye Oyuwumi eventually saw full back Joe Mwangi over for the opening try of the afternoon. The Stockport forwards had complete dominance up front in all the set plays and this led to a 2nd try when captain and No.8 Andy English forced his way which was converted by centre Kyle Chapman. Not to be left behind by his mate Mwangi, Oyewumi then scored a try of his own again converted by Chapman giving Stockport a healthy 19-3 half time lead.

Despite a strong first half both on the field and the scoreboard, there was still plenty to improve on including team communication which brought a strong start to the 2nd half as Stockport took control with 2 unconverted tries with a 2nd for Mwangi and then one in the corner for scrum half James Shallcross. Captain English then scored his 2nd as the Stockport scrum took complete control of the home side which was improved by substitute full back Lee Percival but then whilst resting on their laurels, Burnage hit back with a breakaway converted try to bring the score line to 36-10. With tired legs and heaving lungs, one last attack saw a break in midfield and an excellent pass from centre Simon Bollington saw wing Connor Osbiston scamper over unopposed with Percival adding the extras leaving the final score 43-10 to Stockport in their best performance of 2018.
