Stockport Under 14's made their first and only competitive outing of the season as the combined forces of the Reds and Greens squads joined together for one day to defend the trophy they won last year on a day to remember at the London Irish training ground at Sunbury.

For a team that hasn't played a competitive fixture together since last seasons Cheshire Cup final the boys produced a brilliant display of running rugby aided and abetted to a miserly defence that saw them concede not a single try right through out the tournament.

The day started brightly with 4 wins out of 4 in the group stages the best of which was a single try win against St Peters of Cardiff in a tough, physical encounter that could have gone either way.

After topping the group the boys went into a semi final against Alton Rugby Club from Hampshire where two tries from Miles Cooke and Issac Deans were enough to seal a final appearance against St Peters after they had beaten local side Maidenhead in the other semi final.

Knowing they would have to be at their best to beat the Welsh side they took the game to them with an early score from Miles Cooke before Rowan Abbott made the game and the Cup safe with a superb interception to seal the win.

Thank you to London Irish who again organised a brilliant tournament allowing Stockport to lock horns with some of the biggest clubs in the country and special thanks to their medical staff who looked after our injured players brilliantly on the day.

The 5 hour bus trip home seemed to last about 5 minutes on a day that will live long in the memory.
