The first session back after Christmas is always an interesting one. The combination of late nights, over-excitement and a diet consisting mainly of mince pies and selection boxes isn't exactly conducive to athletic ability but we needn't have worried. The players clearly couldn't wait to get back on the pitch and got the new decade off to a flying start with an excellent performance against Heaton Moor.

The squad was split into 4 teams, each playing against three teams from the visitors which allowed each team some time out to look at how they did in their previous games and work on some skills which they could put into practice in their subsequent games. All of the coaches were impressed with how well the players worked together as a team, putting the skills learned in training into practice. In particular, the speed and efficiency of the Stockport defence, both in getting into formation and grabbing tags, made it seem impossible for the opposition to break through at times.

To say the choice of player of the week was tough this week would be a huge understatement as everyone put in a massive effort throughout and displayed a great attitude when being subbed or loaned to the visiting team to make up numbers. Additionally, the coaching team (and I'm sure the parents too) were blown away by how well our newer players performed, particularly given that, for two of them, it was their first session with us - well done, you all did brilliantly.

Overall this was a great performance from the under 7s and a great start to 2020.
