A day trip to rural cheshire and our hosts Knutsford RUFC started with promising sunshine and clear skies, albeit slightly chilly. Spitfires, fresh from last weeks win at home to Sale FC were replete with an (almost) full compliment of players to choose from.

In fairness these two sides were rather evenly balanced, Spitfires carrying the edge slightly from stronger forward play. Unfortunately, some of the decisions did not go Spitfires way as is to be expected but slightly compounded by the referees temporary paralysis of his left arm. A referees life is not an easy one.

Bonner opened the scoring with a well worked try that started with some heavy work from an impressive set of Spitfires forwards. With the wind behind them however, Knutsford soon evened the scores before converting to go 2 points ahead. With some strong runners in the Knutsford backline, the game was going to be won through the Spitfires forwards grinding out territory and drawing players into the breakdown and creating space. It was encouraging to see some superb tackling (special mention to Mclean) on show and the pod system clicking so well with the forwards and backs communicating really effectively.
Beisly strode through from the half way line to take Spitfires second try, touching down between the sticks, a fine performance with strong support play. Knutsford again kept themselves in contention to score a second before Bonner went over for his second try marking another fine performance, neatly converted by Loughlin on kicking duty.

Spitfires last try came from the hands of Nheta, well worked by the forwards who remained dominant at the set piece and breakdown throughout.

A really impressive performance for Spitfires who worked hard as a team and communicated well, used space wisely and did not hold back from contact. A spectators delight!

Well played lads. It would be easy to mention 15-17 players who had great games however space does not allow. Suffice to sat this was a real team performance of which the whole team should be proud.
